Clinic Registration
Summer 2020
Madrona Clinic
Head Instructor: Sara Yamasaki
The Four-day High School and Middle School Clinics are designed to have students connect to their opinions, desires and words. They will learn writing techniques that fill pages, revision strategies that hone clarity and depth, and editing skills that make every word count. Most importantly, writers will learn to trust themselves and discover their originality, voice, and genius.
Students work in groups and one-on-one with teachers who support each student's strengths and learning style. This intensive course is created so that every activity—even the afternoon teas— builds a climate of trust, focus, motivation and joy. Full attendance is necessary for students to gain stronger writing skills and to learn more about themselves as writers, speakers and thinkers.
All writing will be done in class, unless students desire to write further at home.
The Elementary Writing Roots Clinic is a safe place for tender voices to take root, deepen, and flourish with joy. Writers will playfully discover how the brain finds ideas, how their words can flow freely onto the page, and how to listen and bring out their wondrous gifts: their “attendant spirit present from birth,” the definition of genius.
